Milind,
This is another excellent addition in the blog.
I think for creating the 'Right Environment' and the 'Trigger'' for generating Passion, it is important to identify 'What counts' for the person and ensure that the focus is on 'Pay in the coins which count'.
I would like to quote an example.
One of my team members who had less than one year experience was not liking the maintenance work he was assigned. I demonstrated to him how automation of work improves quality and speed and free him for other 'Interesting' work. During this automation, he was trained/exposed to some tools. The result was he became very passionate about identifying tools and experimenting and utilizing the tools effectively!
Thanks and Regards

Have just one thing to say

Can you teach a person to be passionate? : You cannot if the person does not desire for this(whatever you want the person to be passionate about) deep down. It may produce initial results due to the drum-beating, but it will not be long lasting. So finding the right person for the right job is very important from a long term perspective.

Milind - That was amazing. Very thought provoking. While I was discussing this subject with Sukumar, I too made the point about understanding the big picture. I believe if we know the value of what we are doing, definitely we will be passionate about it. I know many doctors who are passionate about their work, not because the work is pleasurable but being able to save lives and relieve people from pain gives lot of satisfaction.
Understanding the value of what we do is definitely an important trigger for passion.

Here are my answers to your questions.

1) Yes, it is possible to be passionate about something which you are not good at. Almost everyone in India is passionate about cricket, but not many are good at it.

2) Yes, if you are lazy. I know many people who are very good at singing but don't attempt to work on the talent. An important aspect of passion is the ability to work hard and long.
